What a great picture!! Who's the artist? (and, for those of us who are Latin-challenged, what does "memento mori" mean?)

I've had a hard time tracking down the name of the artist, but the subject is "Faust".

"Memento mori" means "remember death". It's a simple way of reminding us not to live for this world, not to store up our treasure on Earth, because eventually death comes for us all - no matter how great we may be in this world. And we know not the day nor the hour.
